Homeschool Membership from CTCMath ~ A Schoolhouse Crew Review

I love it when I am able to review a math curriculum. My kids least favorite subject is math, so this is a great opportunity to try different products to see what fits, or maybe even a good supplement for them. For the last few weeks, we have been reviewing the Homeschool Membership from CTCMath, an online curriculum. We were very blessed to receive this program for 1 full year.

What is CTCMath and how does it work?

Like I said, this is an online program, and it includes everything you need to utilize it. One of the wonderful things about it is that one membership will allow you to use it with up to TEN children! This is definitely a plus for large homeschooling families on a budget! CTCMath covers grades from Kindergarten to the 12th grade! You don't have to worry about having a bunch of different curriculum, while trying to homeschool multiple children at different levels.

There are 1400 CTCMath tutorials that teach the concepts of math in a step by step process. The lessons are short enough to hold the student's attention, but they are also done very well so that the concept is fully explained.

Upon receiving my log in instructions, I was pleased to see that it has both a parent log in and a student log in. This makes it very simple to see all of your students in one place. There are quite a bit of things that you can do after logging into the parent view. From the homepage, you are able to see a quick overview of your students, their overall grade, and the lessons completed. It also shows their activity, awards, and weekly reports. You can even get a pdf version of their grades so that you can easily print it out.

Another thing that I really enjoyed about the program is that you can add tasks for each child to do. For example, I could go in and set up the task that I wanted them to do for Monday. I could even name it Monday's work. When my kids signed on under the student log in, it was ready for them to go under their tasks section and see their daily work. All they have to do is click on that specific task and it will take them to the lesson.

How did we use CTCMath?

It's a very simple program to use, but don't let that fool you into thinking that it's lacking substance, because it does not. After my children logged in, they would go look at the tasks that I had assigned them for the day and get started. First they watch the video that explains the the task for the day. They really enjoyed the teacher, and have learned quite a bit from the videos. They explain things thoroughly, and if the student still has questions, they are able to go back and view the video again.

After they have watched the video, they can do the questions that are given. This is all done online and then when they are done, the program tells them which ones that they got correct and which were counted wrong. There are also worksheets that can be printed out, but from what I can tell they are basically the same questions just in print form.

What did we think?

Well we love this program! We are actually going to use it this year as our primary math curriculum. The ONLY thing I wish that it had was an option to create more worksheets. My kids needed a little bit more practice on a few of the lessons, and I just went to the Internet and created some worksheets from there. It would just be a tad bit easier if there was an option to do that within the program. Other than that, this is a fantastic program for all ages. The Homeschool Membership by CTCMath is actually on sale right now. You can get a full year, for up to TEN different children, for $118.80. If you only have one student, you can get it at the sale price of $78.80.  My kids love it, and we are excited to be using it this year!
