Gav has recently shown an interest in playing guitar, so when Guitar 360 Method offered their Semester 1 Bundle up for review, I jumped on it. When he wants to do anything that doesn't involve a video game, I'm all for it!

The Guitar 360 Method is taught by Krisz Simonfalvi, an artist, musician, and teacher, who was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary. He started playing classical guitar at the age of 6, and although he was very good at it, lost interest because he wasn't taught how to understand his instrument. After coming back to his guitar in his late teens, he remembered his music teacher's method which was a down to Earth and more practical way of learning the guitar. This fueled his passion to teach his students with a more practical and no nonsense approach so that they can excel in guitar playing too.

Upon receiving this product, I was really impressed with the website itself. I love a website that is easy to navigate, and the Guitar 360 method did not disappoint! As you can see in the picture below, you have tab that says "My Library."

After you click on that tab, everything you have access to will appear here where it's easy to find.

Now since Gav has never had any kind of lessons before, we started with the very first set of videos under the "Start Playing Your Guitar" section. He wasn't even sure how to hold it correctly so this was where he needed to be. This is actually where we are still working. In this section, it's broken down into weeks, but the beauty of this product is, you can break it down and do it as slow or fast as you need to. It's a learn at your own pace program, and we love that! Also the videos are made to be short so that you can go directly to what you're looking for. This saves time and eliminates having to fast forward or rewind to find a certain topic in a long video!

He started out learning the parts of the guitar. I loved that he took the time to go over this, because every musician needs to know their instrument. He moved on to right hand and left hand techniques. He even talks to them about how to tune their guitar. All important information for playing your best!

The first thing Gav was playing was the 4 finger warm up exercise. It took him some time to get used to it, but after a couple of days, he was playing it pretty well. He was complaining that his hands and fingers hurt, but we explained that he would eventually work that out. It's all part of being a new guitar player! After going over this exercise, your student is given some different practice videos to work on starting at Level 1 and going into Level 3.

After going through the 3 weeks of "Getting to Know Your Guitar," you will then be ready to move on to the Semester 1 section. This is a 13 week course focused on giving you or your student the foundation you need to be a great guitar player. Like I said, we have not gotten to this part yet, but I did look ahead and we are really looking forward to it! Mr. Simonfalvi takes his time in explaining everything so that it's easy to understand, even if you are a beginner.

This is a great course whether you are a new guitar player, or have a few skills under your belt. I love how it's broken down and easy to understand. My husband who plays guitar, also thought the videos were great, and appreciated this easy method of learning. I highly recommend the Guitar 360 Method if you are looking to learn guitar from the comfort of your own home.
I absolutely love audio dramas and reviewing them is always so much fun for our family! We were really excited to be able to listen to Season 6: Underground Rising by Brinkman Adventures.

If you have never heard of audio adventures or audio dramas before, let me tell you, they are a lot of fun. Before I had ever listened to one, I thought it was going to be like an audio book, but that's not the case at all! It's almost like listening to a movie, but to me even better than that. There is no picture for you to see, so they have to use sounds and music to really give you the full effect. Brinkman Adventures has brought these episodes in Season 6 to life!

For our review we were given the digital version so that we could download and listen immediately. I love this option because I can email myself the links and we can listen on my phone. With it being portable, this would be a great program to listen to while on a road trip. The entire Season runs a little over 2 hours. Each episode is around 25 minutes long so you could just break it down and listen a little at a time.

Another great way to use this product is if you wanted to use it as a devotional time. Each episode is a story but also how these people had faith in God.

I love that these stories are based on actual events. The Brinkman's are a real family, but have changed the names for the stories. That makes them even more appealing to me. The stories are so well told that you feel like you are a part of them and know this family! After listening to the episodes, do yourself a favor and go check out their Real Stories page. I enjoyed reading this page almost as much as listening to the stories themselves! It gives you all kinds of back ground info and behind the scenes for each story!

I wanted to talk about which of the episodes were our favorite but it was honestly hard to choose! Every single one was perfect in it's own way. The first episode was about two young girls who go to visit their Omie (great grandmother) in Canada. After a long trek to her house, they want to curl up into her cute little cottage and hear the story of their Opie and his involvement in the Dutch Resistance. We really loved all of the action in this one, and there was plenty of excitement to keep you on the edge of your seat. Another favorite was Twice Born Fly...this was absolutely precious. It's the story all about following Jesus and having faith in him. I loved how they had a real day of rest and some family time. This sparked a story from the Dad and a dream he had. His dream was a good description of how we should follow Jesus and have faith and trust in Him. It also explains how we can give our hearts to Jesus and live for him...another words how we can be born again with a new heart!

Ok, the crowning jewel for us, my son especially was I Wonder Why. This was such a blessing to our family because the entire story surrounds a little boy with allergies. Our son also has severe food allergies, so it was extremely relatable! This is the story of a family who is needing to really see Jesus move in their lives. They are called by the Lord to travel to India to love kids in an orphanage. They walk through many trials while they are there, and really started questioning whether God wanted them to be there or not. Soon they see how God's plan is specially made for them and why being obedient to him is so important. Great episode!

There are so many ways to use this from devotional time to family time. I hope you will give at least one of the seasons from Brinkman Adventures a try! Start with Season 1 and work your way to Season 6! You won't be disappointed!

For the last few weeks we have been working with a fun new product called Books of the Bible At-a-Glance by Teach Sunday School. This is one of those reviews that doesn't apply to only homeschoolers, but to anyone who reads the Bible, or even teaches the Bible.

This came at a timely manner for us, because at the beginning of our school year, we decided that we were going to read the Bible straight through from cover to cover. These printables have helped us tremendously as we reach a new book because of the wealth of information each one holds.

It's very simple to get them all printed out, and ready to use. I printed them all out at the same time, and I'm actually going to make a notebook for this so that it's always easily accessible to my entire family.

I want to talk a little bit about what each sheet contains. As you can see in the pic below, the sheets are not boring and monotonous. They are very colorful, and laid out in a way that is easy to understand so that the important facts stand out.

Each book has it's own sheet that contains the highlights for each book. It's kind of like having the Cliff Notes for each book at your finger tips all on one page.

At the very top of the page, you can see very quickly the order of the book as it comes in the Bible, the author of that book, and the time period it was written in. Also, it tells you what time periods it covers. Next you can see the section that is "Claims to Fame." Here it tells you what stories or parts that make that book unique. For instance for Genesis, its tells you that it's the first book of the Bible and the book that covers the longest span of time, which is over 2000 years.

Moving down the page, you can see what famous stories are part of that book, and also what verses that book is most known for. This is super helpful as we are going through the Bible, and looking for memory verses.

I think this product can help anyone who is interested in reading the Bible, but also if you are teaching a Sunday School class or any group at church. These would be amazing hand outs for a youth group to have and study at home. It's also a fantastic way to have a reference book at your fingertips by printing everything out and putting it into a 3 ring binder.

We have loved this product and will continue to use it as we read through our Bible from cover to cover!

Our second review this week has been all about Latin! We have been using the Picta Dicta Vocabulary Builder by Roman Roads Media for the last few weeks to see if we could learn some new words in Latin.

I have never taken any kind of Latin so when this review came up, I thought why not check out the Vocabulary Builder to get a small taste of it. It's definitely not a complete curriculum by any means, but I think it would be a huge asset to someone who is taking Latin. On top of that it's fun!

Picta Dicta is completely online, self paced and geared for a range of ages starting in junior high on up through college. It covers general reading vocabulary learning such things as verbs, nouns, adjectives, and other concepts to help students with reading proficiency. It uses a combination of things such as pictures, sounds, and concepts just to name a few, to help the student remember each word or phrase.

Roman Roads was very generous in giving us as many licenses as we needed to complete this review. This means I could also use it in addition to Gavin, my 13 year old. I normally have them working on reviews themselves for the majority of the time, but I really dove into this one myself. We ended up pretty much doing it together since it was just me and him.

Getting started with the program is super easy. Once you set up your learner profiles, you are ready to get started. We just dove right in. The Vocabulary Builder has several different difficulty levels, but we decided that we should definitely start off with Easy.

Once you are to your dashboard, you can see the word "Play" at the top and you will click on that. This will take you to where the lessons are.

On the right side of the screen are two icons, Train and Go. To get started, we went to Go. This brings you to the first lesson which is over The Map and all things to do with The Map. Each lesson is broken down into 3 parts. Learn, Choose, and Spell.

You will start with the Learn category. This is where the words are introduced to you. There are flashcards that pop up that tell you the origin of the word, it has a picture to help you remember the word, and also tells you what the word means.

After showing you a few flash cards, it will next give you words that you have to match with the pictures. This is extremely helpful for the visual learner. Aka me and my children! Sometimes I really think the pictures are what helped us remember the words.

When you have completed the Learn category, you will then move to the Choose category. Here you will be given the word like before and then you will have to choose the correct word or meaning.

We did really well with the words, but we were constantly getting hung up on the phrases! We finally made it through though because the program will continue to go over them until you know them.

Next you will move on to what we found to be the hardest part of each lesson which is Spell. Here they gave you a word and then you had to not only remember it, but also spell it correctly! This was very challenging for us for some reason!

After every chapter or two, there will be a review over what you've learned. You can also go the the Train icon at the top of your dashboard and pull up reviews that way. There are a number of ways to review, so you can have all of the practice you want!

Like I said, this would be great for someone who is taking a Latin course, so we may revisit this again when Gav is in high school! We really enjoyed using it, and we even came away knowing some new Latin words. I would highly recommend it for a supplement or to anyone just wanting to brush up on their Latin!

Our newest review is over two fantastic books, Who Was Jonah?, and Who Was Mary, Mother of Jesus? Both of these books are from Barbour Publishing and are in the Kingdom Files series.

I had never heard of the Kingdom Files series before reviewing these books. They were written by author, Matt Koceich. Matt lives in Texas with his wife and children, and is a public school teacher.

I have to say, I was really impressed. In this series, you will find that it's a Bible based biography, and is geared for kids ages 8-12. Each book in the series follows a different Bible character. The story is well told, and lets the reader dive right into that time period.

The first book I want to talk about is Who was Jonah? This is the first one Gav grabbed because we have always enjoyed the story of Jonah. As you can see from the cover, these books are very inviting to any reader.

In the beginning of the book there is a page directed to the reader, or the Reading Detective. It explains all three of the sections that the book is broken down into which are the Fact File, the Action File, and the Power File. These aren't just your regular run of the mill children's books. They are full of information not only about the Bible character, but also about other key people in the Bible.

So before your child even starts the story, they are given the Fact File we talked about earlier. I thought this was such a neat extra to the book. The Fact File tells us all about our character, in this case, Jonah. It gives us his occupation, where he's from, a timeline, and even some key stats.

Now we are ready to get into the Action File portion of the book. This is where we will read
all about Jonah and his adventures. Throughout the story there are Bible verses for reference which is another plus. Gavin told me that he really enjoyed every part of the story. He said it was written in a way that it was not only easy to understand, but also enjoyable. While reading the story there are little clue boxes. They are just little extra bits of encouragement for the reader.

One of my favorite things about the book is the Power File at the end where the reader is given 10 "Power-Ups." These are more in depth bits of encouragement and memory verses covering topics that connect scripture to the reader's lives. Just to name a few are: Obey God, God Cares, God is Faithful, and more. I think these are fantastic because it helps the reader remember just who God is and how much He loves us!

The second book that we were given the privilege to review is Who Was Mary, Mother of Jesus? It again has a very inviting and lovely cover.

Gav hasn't started this book yet, but he's excited to do so. This book follows Mary and the birth of Jesus, so I think we are going to save it for when it gets closer to Christmas. It has all of the same great pieces to it as Who Was Jonah?.

Gav really loved reading these books, and I think he benefited from them even though he is 13. I hope to order some more and add them to our library!

For the past few weeks we have been reviewing a free comprehensive online program called GrammarPlanet. GrammarPlanet is geared for kids aged 10 to 99, and it covers grammar, punctuation, and usage.

I was super excited to review this program, because I love grammar, and my kids do not. The fact that it was all online, and free was very appealing to me. (You can pay for an ad-free version if you prefer) I thought this would be a great way for my 7th grader who isn't a fan of grammar to get some good practice in. I made a teacher/parent account and immediately got Gavin all set up to start working. It was fast and easy to get started, and also very easy to add my student. He will have his own access to the program through his user name and password.

After logging in, your student will be brought to his/her dashboard. This is where they will go through each unit, and as of right now there are 13 different units available. The first thing you are to do is print off the notes for each unit. My printer is acting up, so we just had to pull them up on the computer. It would be good to have a folder or notebook of some sort to keep all of these notes handy for your student, even if they aren't working in GrammarPlanet.

Once the notes are printed, your student is ready to watch the video that coincides with that unit. It will introduce the topic such as nouns, articles, pronouns, etc., and even pause in the middle to make sure your student is paying attention and understanding what is being taught. It will ask a question about what is being discussed. and your student chooses the correct answer.

Some of the videos seemed to overwhelm Gavin with information. I could tell he was confused a little bit, so we would watch the video again. It was almost too much information for him to soak in at times. We moved on anyway so he could start the practice portion. This is where he started getting frustrated. The first unit on nouns wasn't hard for him at all. I felt since he's in 7th grade, most of this would be second nature, and I was right. As we moved on, I could tell he was a little overwhelmed because the labeling process of the program made him completely flustered. What you were to do is go through and label the parts of the sentence. So in unit 3, the student was labeling articles, adjectives, common and proper nouns. If he labeled something wrong, especially with what they called wings, it would count against him. The wings hurt him a lot, and completely frustrated him.

If you get too many wrong, it will tell you that you need to review the video and notes, and even lock you out of the level. The parent/teacher will have to go in and unlock the level so that the student can move on. I am not a fan of this. I would have to log him out, then log myself in, unlock the level, then log myself out, and then him back in. It just seemed like a waste of time to me. I would have much rather it just not let him move on to the next level until the current level is mastered. Once you have completed the practice, and gotten most of them correct, you will take a test over the unit. I did like that it counted some parts of the sentence correct, and it wasn't just all wrong if a label was missed or missed labeled. It also lets you look at what your child missed on each sentence, so that's another plus.

We reviewed GrammarPlanet as a Beta testing. I ended up taking Gav off of the review due to him getting completely frustrated and overwhelmed with it. I think it has great potential, but I also think it is geared more for older kids like high school or college aged. I think it's just too confusing for younger students, especially those who struggle with grammar. I will say it was a great review for me since I took it over, but even I as an adult, I found some of it to be overwhelming. I failed Unit 3 THREE times before I got to move on. I was ready to throw in the towel myself! If they tweak things, and make this program a little less confusing, I think it can be fantastic. Until then, we probably won't be using it much.

I love a good encouraging homeschool book to read. For the last few weeks I've had the pleasure of reading God Schooling: How God Intended Children to Learn by Julie Polanco.

There are so many different ways to homeschool. You have your Charlotte Mason method, Classical style, Relaxed/Eclectic, and School at Home just to name a few. At some point or another along our homeschool journey, they have all intrigued me, and we have even tried a few different methods ourselves. The one that has always been a bit controversial, but that I also find super interesting is Unschooling. No, Unschooling is not being lazy and letting your kids do whatever they want to do. To me, if you're doing it right, it's almost the hardest style of learning to go with because as a parent, you have to be very pro-active in your child's learning. Most homeschool parents are pro-active, but this takes it to a whole new level.

This is where God Schooling comes in to play. First, let me tell you a little bit about the author, Julie Polanco. Julie, a wife and mom, has homeschooled her four children from the beginning and graduated their first child in 2016. She is a regular contributor for Old Schoolhouse Magazine and their Homeschooling With Heart blog. She has regular involvement in the homeschool community and teaches science and writing classes in her home and co-ops.

In her book God Schooling, Julie explains what unschooling or natural learning means to her and her family. The book, as the title states, is her views on how God intends for us to learn. It is broken down into two parts which are Dispelling Myths and Practice. When it comes to natural learning, or unschooling, I have found most people to either understand it and believe in it, or think that it's crazy. See when this type of learning is put into practice, there is no set curriculum. Your child learns on his own and learns about the things that he/she finds interesting. As a parent, you do everything possible to provide your child with what they want to learn about. Julie starts off the book by telling us how her children did not like being forced to learn what they were "supposed" to be learning. Through a lot of prayer God led her to Christian Unschooling.

When you get to the second part of the book, the author breaks down each stage of development. She will cover teaching children under the age of 8, teaching children ages 8 to 12, and then on to teenagers. For each section Julie will give you ways to incorporate learning into your child's life. My favorite chapter was Giving Teens the Wings to Fly because I have only teenagers now. I love the examples she gives of the teenagers who invented or did great things at such a young age! My two kids left at home who homeschool are very different learners. Edyn does not like to book learn. In fact I did mostly interest led homeschooling with her. As she became a teenager and I watched her grow more and more into the young woman she is now, I let her have a little bit of lead on her education. She has never wanted to go to college, and I am not the type of parent who would ever make her, or make her feel like she's less than if she chooses not to go. I always left the option open for her. She would say "Mom, I have no need to learn Biology. I don't care to learn it because it will not help me in any way of what I want to do." See, as she grew and learned, and I gave her a little more authority over her own education, she realized that she wanted more than anything to be a realtor. It makes total sense. It's literally the perfect job for her. I totally think God led her down this path for a reason.

Now with my son who is 13, he has decided that he wants to be either an architect or an engineer. He realizes that he will have to go to college for this, so we will make sure that he is also set on the right path for that. Unlike Edyn, he doesn't mind learning about things he may not use in real life. He is not as much of a people person as Edyn, so he will definitely not be taking the same path as she will.

I love that the book is filled to the brim with scriptures that promote Christ led learning. Julie also gives you some discussion questions at the end of each chapter so you can write down your thoughts.

Now here's how I feel about it. I loved the book and found it to be an easy read. Is unschooling or natural learning for everyone? No. I think that everyone who was called to homeschool will do what's best for their family, or even each individual child. There were so many things that I agreed with, but I have trouble letting go completely. I will definitely let my children continue to have some say so in their education. I do want to emphasize that Julie is not promoting radical unschooling. That is an entirely different movement. I think this book is well worth the money and would be a great read for anyone who is even remotely interested in natural learning.

If you are interested in reading the e-book version of God Schooling, it will be on sale for half price until August 22!

Sometimes it's really hard to find uplifting music for your children that you can confidently let them listen to without worrying they will hear something they shouldn't. For the last few weeks we have been reviewing a brand new program called Smart Kidz Radio by Smart Kidz Media.

This review isn't really for my kids because they are a little too old for this content in my opinion, but I did have my grand babies in mind for it. Finding a children's radio station, that really is catered to safe listening for your children, isn't the easiest thing to do. Even if you find something that has toddler songs, or children's songs, you may still have to worry about what's being said on the commercials. I've even come across some questionable children's songs! As parents or grandparents it would be nice to be able to turn some music on for our children and walk away. This is where the new online kids radio station, Smart Kidz Radio comes in to play. No pun intended. :)

When you go to the website, it's extremely simple to navigate. You can be streaming the music with the click of a button.

The music is your typical kids style music. You get uplifting and upbeat songs that teach along the way. I did feel like a lot of the songs sounded similar, but I guess you will get that effect when they are catered to children.

If you click on the menu icon at the bottom of the screen you are taken to what is my favorite part of the program. This is where you can listen to what they refer to as podcasts, but they are actually really great fairy tales!

After you get to this screen, you click on the icon with the microphone and it will take you to the list of podcasts! I listened to a few of them and they were all great! This would be perfect to put on for your child for quiet time, or even bed time. Some of my favorites were Alice in Wonderland, The Three Little Bears, Hansel and Gretal, and of course Little Red Riding Hood. Most of the stories run between 15 and 20 minutes long. This is perfect for a young child's attention span.

As of right now, the free live streaming is all that's available from your computer. I know that apps are in the works. If you can listen from your phone or tablet, this will take this program to a whole new level. Also, they are going to offer an upgraded on demand option. This will run you a small fee, but nothing extreme. You will be able to pick and choose different types of song and story programming. Here is a great FAQ page that will answer all or most of your questions about the up and coming on demand option.

If you are interested in finding an online radio station completely geared for kids, then I would highly recommend Smart Kidz Radio by Smart Kidz Media. It's definitely something I wish I would have had around when my kids were younger!

I'm finally back to reviews after having some time off. For the last few weeks we have had the opportunity to review an online class called Dinosaurs and the Bible, and also the introductory video, Taking the Mystery Out of Geology by Northwest Treasures.

I have always had a love for dinosaurs probably even more than my kids ever had. I know questions have come up several times about when dinosaurs lived according to the Bible. This series sounded really interesting to me! We are on summer break right now so I thought this would be a nice way to have a little "school" while we recharge. We received these two courses for a 6 month period on Vimeo for this review.

First off, Dinosaurs and the Bible is an online course for grades 5 to adult. The course is taught by geologist, Patrick Nurre, who has had a love for geology since the second grade when he found his first large dinosaur bone in an alley behind his house! He does a fantastic job at explaining and breaking things down for you throughout the videos.

Like I said earlier, you will access these courses through Vimeo. The set up is easy, and you will go straight to the 6 video lineup. Each video is around 20 minutes long give or take a few minutes on each. You can choose to take the course however you want, so we chose a video a day. Either way it doesn't take very long. Following each video you will have the chance to print out some worksheets and a test for your student to do. We did not use the worksheets or test as this was just for fun for us, but they are very well put together. My only complaint is that I had a little trouble finding them. If you click on the title of the video, it will have a pop up window, and the link is in it. Once you know where to look, they are easy to access.

The videos are basically picture based with a voice over, and include colorful and well put together pictures and vocabulary. Mr. Nurre provides you with plenty of information in each one. You will discover new people and their role in how dinosaurs came to be and also plenty of new vocabulary words. Here's a few examples.

The course is broken down into 6 videos, each covering a different topic about Dinosaurs and the Bible.

Episode 1 - How We Got Our Modern View of Dinosaurs ~ In this first video, Mr. Nurre talks about where the word dinosaur came from, he introduces Charles Darwin and his views on evolution, and other people including the Father of Modern Geology, James Hutton.

Episode 2 - The Classification of Dinosaurs ~ This video talks about secular scientists and how they classified dinosaurs verses a biblical approach on classifying dinosaurs.

Episode 3 - Dinosaurs and the Bible, The Great Dinosaur Rush ~ Here you will learn what the Great Dinosaur Rush was, and who were involved in it.

Episode 4 - The Extinction of Dinosaurs ~ Here Mr. Nurre talks about the secular views as to why the dinosaurs are now extinct verses a biblical approach to their extinction.

Episode 5 - Dinosaurs and the Ice Age ~ Here you will learn about the Ice Age that happened after the flood in Genesis and what they has to do with the extinction of dinosaurs.

Episode 6 - Fossils, Age, and Soft Tissue ~ This was one of Gavin's favorite episodes that's talking all about fossils!

In addition to the Dinosaurs and the Bible, we were also given Taking the Mystery out of Geology to review. This was also a 20 minute video that tells you all about geology from a Biblical perspective. I actually had Gav watch this one first before watching about the dinosaurs.

Gav had a lot of fun with this study. It was perfect for a summertime session for him! I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a Biblical perspective on dinosaurs, or who just loves them in general!

I had a really hard time picking paint colors. It's amazing how the same paint color looks different in different rooms and also in different lights. After many many samples on the wall, I've finally decided on the paint colors!

Agreeable Gray - Main color of house

Silver Strands - Master Bedroom

Sea Salt - Master Bath, Upstairs Bath, Laundry Room

Eider White - Downstairs Bath

Snowbound - all cabinets in bathrooms and kitchen

Edyn picked out a really pretty color called Stone Harbor Greige, and Gav picked out a light gray with a blue accent wall.

I can't wait for it to all be done!

The sink in the kitchen was so shallow, and the faucet was so small that there is no way I could have put a pot under it to fill it! My husband bought the most wonderful sink and faucet that I've ever had, and changed it out for me. I don't know how on Earth I ever lived without a single basin sink! I love her!

Another project that my husband tackled was the light that goes over the kitchen table. It was a really...eclectic...yes we will go with that, light before. It was pink with some gold and looked like it needed to be in a beach cabin, Definitely not my style, so we bought one and AJ changed it out for me!

It has been a roller coaster ride of emotions for sure! After we were finally able to close on our house we were so super excited to get there and look at it through new eyes. We left our closing feeling excited, overwhelmed, but also overjoyed that we were finally home owners! This house has felt like home since the first time we walked through it.

When we arrived we walked all through the house, and quickly realized that it was pretty warm in there. Now we live in Texas so I immediately thought, oh no. Either the AC isn't working, or this house is just hot when it's 100 degrees outside. We checked everything we could to see if we could fix it, but it just kept getting warmer and warmer in the house. Of course it was Friday, and we HAD to move. So, we went back to our old house, and started loading up. We got a good night's rest and moved pretty much everything else on Saturday. Thank goodness for friends and family who helped us. It went pretty smoothly because of them! After a long hot day of moving, a hot house isn't what we were hoping for. So, my father in law and husband went and bought some window units to get us by. It worked well, and we all camped downstairs. Luckily that only lasted a couple of days, because when the AC repairman came out, he just needed to charge the unit with Freon.

That Sunday when we were concerned over moving into a new house with a broken AC, and upset that it wasn't going as planned, AJ found what looked like an owl feather outside right in the middle of our yard.

For the last few weeks we have been reviewing another math product! One of my favorite things to review! Understanding Pre-Algebra by The Critical Thinking Co.™ has been a great new addition to for Gavin in math.

Gavin is coming up on what would be his 8th grade year, so it's time to get him ready for Algebra 1. I thought Understanding Pre-Algebra would be a perfect way to really make sure he would be ready for it with high school right around the corner.

Understanding Pre-Algebra isn't like most other math curriculum that Gav has used which is normally video based. For our review, we received a complete workbook with the teaching material, and work sheets all in one. I have to say with Gav being a very visual learner that did concern me, but it really surprised me how well he has taken to it.

Understanding Pre-Algebra is suggested for grades 6-8. The goal of this book is to make sure the students really and truly understand the concepts of math and have the critical thinking skills that is necessary for them to be successful in Algebra 1. This is exactly what I need for Gavin. He's good at math, but fails to remember some of the important concepts. I actually used this book along with his regular math and it has helped him tremendously already!!

So how does it work? It's honestly one of the most simple math programs that we have reviewed or used so far. It's broken down into 15 chapters and then each chapter is broken down even further to individual concepts. Here's a look at the chapters and what they cover.

Chapter 1 ~ Family of Numbers

Chapter 2 ~ Working with Integers

Chapter 3 ~ Working with Rational Numbers

Chapter 4 ~ Ratio, Proportion, and Percent

Chapter 5 ~ Percent Applications

Chapter 6 ~ Algebraic Expressions

Chapter 7 ~ Equations and Solving Word Problems

Chapter 8 ~ Inequalities and Applications

Chapter 9 ~ Understanding Square Roots and Irrational Numbers

Chapter 10 ~ Two Dimensional Geometry

Chapter 11 ~ Understanding Volume and Surface Area

Chapter 12 ~ Graphing on the Coordinate Plane

Chapter 13 ~ Transformations and Congruency

Chapter 14 ~ Understanding Functions

Chapter 15 ~ Probability and Statistics

So like I said, this is a super simple curriculum but packed full of great info that your child can understand. That is so important especially when it comes to math. At the beginning of the lesson, we read what the concept was about and how to do it. As you can see from the very beginning this workbook is not boring, but it is full of color to help with understanding what is being taught in each lesson.

After your student has finished with the chapter, there is a chapter review going over the concepts learned.

In the back of the book, you will find a glossary, a final exam, and the answers in the back. Part of me wished there was a different answer book, so I didn't have to keep flipping back and forth, but it definitely isn't a deal breaker.

We absolutely loved reviewing Understanding Pre-Algebra from The Critical Thinking Co.™. I am going to continue to use it throughout this year until we complete all of it, right along with his video math. I feel like they work very well together to solidify his understanding in these important concepts. If you have a child getting ready for Algebra 1, I really recommend this program!

The Critical Thinking Co.™ is offering a special offer for our readers right now!
